Wildlife in Las Vegas

Last updated on November 22, 2022

The ruddy duck is a frequent visitor to the Clark County Wetlands Park, and can be seen throughout the year. In this picture, taken by me, the duck has its tail down. Normally, they hold the tail straight up unless they’re hiding from something (perhaps the photographer?) As evidenced by the bright blue bill and brown body, this duck is a male during breeding season; when the breeding season is over, both the beak and feathers turn a dull gray color. This species is one of many that can be seen at the Wetlands Park, an important refuge for wildlife in Las Vegas.
