As the pandemic continues to impact our daily lives, we can all agree that people have been turning more and more to the outdoors as a means of escape. Of course, who can blame them? A breath of fresh air really has become necessary in times where we are often confined to our homes. And what better change of scenery than from urban/suburban to more natural/rural? For Las Vegas locals, it may seem like that there aren’t really any places to get outside, especially since we’re in a desert valley. However, on the contrary, there are actually many spots closer to home than you may think.
The Clark County Wetlands Park is one of these spots, and good news! It is open to the public during the pandemic from dawn to dusk. Additionally, the park is free to visit and gives you access to a variety of trails. The park is usually notable for the various bird species you can see in the marshes, but there likely won’t be many during the winter months. However, you can still enjoy the trails and since the park is not normally busy, you won’t need to worry about coming into contact with many others. Keep in mind that face masks and social distancing regulations are still in place, so make sure to go prepared.

A second spot (and lesser known) is the Pittman Wash Trail located in Henderson. The trail is quite extensive and runs along the Pittman Wash, one of the main paths for storm runoffs in Las Vegas. Though it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing, the trail is definitely a good option for those looking to take a longer hike (~8 mile round trip) and for those not wanting to choose between multiple trails. Another advantage of this spot is that it is still located in the suburbs and allows you to experience nature while the Wetlands Park is more of a separate nature reserve.
As you can see, there are definitely spots in the Las Vegas area that can provide the fresh air needed during these times. And these are just two places; you can find many more just by searching on the Internet!
