Poetry is a form of art that is expressed in profound words. It describes the realities of life. It renders words in such a way as to evoke intense emotion and aesthetics. Poetry is important because it helps us understand and appreciate the world around us. Its words show the truth and teach people how to live to relate to each other a little better. Yet, most ordinary people do not enjoy it as much as others. They do not want to “waste” their time trying to figure out the idea of the poem and uncover its figurative language. Likewise, unlike novels made to movies, poetry is not often depicted in a film because it is hard to display the meaning and symbolism of poetry in pictures. In films, pictures show action. The audience will see a scene, and then the plot moves forward. They do not have the time to think about the story because it does not stop showing its significance. Also, because there are movement and dialogue, the audience knows what the movies are telling immediately. For poems, readers need time to comprehend and understand what the poet means. Poetry students will not see the purpose and meaning the first time. They will spend a large amount of time on one stanza. Then, another and until the poem ends and is able to make sense. Therefore, poetry is not best for films because movie audiences do not get the same opportunities to consider the levels of poetry as poetry readers.
