As the days go on, we are nearing an exciting time of year for some sports enthusiasts, particularly football fans. A day where one of the most exciting sports games of the year takes place. A day when people across the nation sit back and watch, as the athletes play an intense game to declare themselves the better team, and earn themselves a priceless ring. Of course, I am referring to the annual Superbowl Sunday, which will take place on February 7th this year, in Tampa Florida. The two teams in the showdown are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although, something this year will change the way Superbowl LV is enjoyed.
Given our current condition with the pandemic, it is no secret that there will be some restrictions regarding in-person viewers along with restrictions for the athletes. For example, as expected, the in-game viewership is limited to 22,000 people, which includes 7,500 healthcare workers who have received the COVID-19 vaccine. Additionally, players of the Kansas City Chiefs are not allowed to travel to Tampa until a day before the game begins. In normal conditions, players travel to the location of interest a week before game-day, so this new restriction will have an effect of some sort on the players whether its fatigue from travel or inability to adapt to the new climate in time. Additionally, in the days leading up to game-day, players usually take part in interviews and pre-match talks; however, this year, all of that will be done virtually. While it does seem that many things are being taken away from the spirit of the game, it is important to remember that there is still a game to watch this year.
Regardless of all the restrictions, football fans are in for a great game next week. In the playoff gauntlet, the chiefs attained an outstanding record of 14 wins and 2 losses in the AFC (American Football Conference) West. Another threat, Tampa Bay Buccaneers attained a record of 11 wins and 5 losses in the AFC South, which is also an incredible record. All in all, Superbowl LV will be an exciting game as usual. Good luck to both teams on the field!
