With the election starting and ending today, many people are racing to their nearest voting center to cast their votes. Political activism is at an all time high, and the public seems to be more engaged this time around. While this is amazing to see, it is also frightening at the same time for many businesses. Many people have a very strong opinion on who is the more qualified candidate, and cannot tolerate people who think otherwise. Business owners fear that in response to a new President elected, people will lash out and create a civil disturbance by vandalizing property, as seen with previous recent protests. Safeguarding their property, Las Vegas business owners are using plywood to keep their glass windows from being broken or painted on, resulting in a shortage of plywood. Protests over the summer give reason to these owners to do such actions: after all, it is their property they worked their whole lives for.
There is one thing that is important to remember when voting and when the verdict of the election is public: we are all Americans, and it is important that we not let our political interests interfere or dictate our relationships, or who we are amiable to or not. We are one big family that has faced many challenges over many hundreds of years. We have become strong, unified, and immense as a family, and we will continue to do so as a family. It seems almost silly for us to break this family we have over a difference in opinion. Be kind to all people, and, regardless of who wins this election and regardless of your personal opinions, love your neighbors. Don’t lash out at them or their belongings simply because you think differently.
