On January 6, 2023, Governor Lombardo issued an initial 15-day emergency declaration in connection with a critical propane shortage in Nevada caused by supply chain problems. Governor Lombardo extended this emergency declaration on January 23, 2023, again waiving certain motor carrier safety regulations, including hours of service for drivers who are transporting propane into Nevada.
The proclamation states that Nevada continues “to suffer from a propane shortage which impacts the ability for people and businesses to heat homes and power essential government and business equipment,” further noting that “extreme weather conditions are anticipated to continue, and Nevada’s propane shortage remains critically low.”
Governors in South Dakota and Wyoming also recently issued emergency declarations in connection with propane shortages that those states are experiencing. The emergency declarations primarily are intended to permit propane vehicle drivers to be able to drive longer hours and deliver more propane to areas in need.
