my cheddar goldfish – Voice of Vegas

my cheddar goldfish come in a package

tossing and turning in that little compartment

some are still whole

and others are broken

yet all of them smile as if it’s been a while

wishing for my cheddar goldfish to awaken,

i set them free in my clear fishbowl

but they all sink with the same classic smile

and end up in a pile

i thought they were happy escaping the package

since their smiles could reach a mile

but maybe it’s boring, with only the same other smiling cheddar goldfish

surely, the Ocean is a wonderful place for my cheddar goldfish

with the sun brightly shining,

the blue water glistening,

the colorful reefs residing,

the many fish wandering,

and i think to myself:

My cheddar goldfish will truly be happy here!

i release my cheddar goldfish into the Ocean, wishing them to swim happily

yet they disappear down to the ocean floor

none of them come ashore

But i notice a difference:

the Ocean has changed… as if it’s been rearranged

nothing is maintained and the water level has gained

the corals have lost color and few fish swim about

and more trash remains

i thought the Ocean was the most perfect place

but this is the funny thing

i know it was done by man

and climate change has began

and again, i think to myself:

Will my cheddar goldfish ever be truly happy?

They all continue to smile, but

their smiles have stayed the same from inside the package to swimming in the ocean

without any emotion.

so to my cheddar goldfish,

i wish you all find the right place

without having to deal with man’s mistake

and hope you all will be TRULY happy

even though you all smile the same
